Product: gluten free Schar tortellini {Bonta d’Italia} Where to find it: Morrisons Price: £3.50 Also available: fresh tagliatelle and ravioli |
I finally managed to get my hands on these babies a few days ago and I’m so happy! I know it probably sounds really sad, but you guys understand me right? ?
I don’t know about you, but one of the foods I found the hardest to give up when I went gluten free was tortellini. It was always my go-to lazy meal back in the days and I was beginning to lose hope in a gluten free version before Evexia came around last year. And I’m really sorry Evexia, I still love you but these gluten free Schar tortellini are the bee’s knees. ?
At the moment I believe they’re only sold in Morrisons, but I could be wrong. If you’ve seen them anywhere else, let me know in the comments below. And don’t make the same mistake I made. For a few days I came to the conclusion that my local Morrisons didn’t stock them, but they were just hiding with the ‘normal’ fresh pasta all along. So if you don’t see them in the gluten free fridge section, just head to the the normal tortellini shelves.
They’re £3.50 which is a bit steep in my opinion, but they’re worth it. One pack yields two pretty decent sized portions and they have a great texture. Very good quality pasta. None of that mushy fragile stuff you get with gluten free pasta sometimes. I know that was the number one complaint with Evexia when it came out… you really have to be careful not to overcook it. But these Schar tortellini are much more forgiving. The packaging says to cook for 3 to 4 minutes and mine still turned perfect when I accidentally exceeded that. Seriously you can poke it with a fork and it doesn’t fall apart! lol Otherwise there’s a slightly sweet flavour to them that I wasn’t totally sure about at first, but I can live with that.
Overall these get my seal of approval and I will definitely buy them again. ?
