A 100% wheat and gluten free bakery in Brixton Village, London.
As I mentioned in a recent post, I used to live very close to Brixton Village and was a regular customer at the WAG Free bakery. I hadn’t been there for ages though, since moving to a different area.
The place has changed a lot since the last time I was there. I know it went through a few ups and downs, temporarily becoming a gluten free restaurant, called Vozars, which sadly ended up closing before I even had the chance to try it… but thankfully WAG Free reopened in the same location afterwards.
A key change is that it’s now more of a restaurant than just a bakery; with indoor and outdoor dining spaces so you can have a proper ‘sitting down’ meal or a bite and a drink. I know it’s been like that for a while now, but it’s all new to me. ?

I had the fish & chips while my boyfriend had the halloumi burger (also served with a bucket of hand cut chips) and a gluten free beer.

While I did enjoy the fish, if I’m honest the batter was a bit soft / lacked crispiness in my opinion. It was, however, still tasty.
And I loved the overall presentation. As silly as it sounds, having the food beautifully laid out on chopping boards like that made me feel like a ‘normal’ person eating at a ‘normal’ restaurant, if you know what I mean.

But the chips, oh the chips… wow! Just perfect and so delicious! I can easily see ourselves going back there just for a bucket of these to share and a drink.

And a glimpse of the desserts on offer.

I was too full to eat anything else, but I will have to go back to try these pina colada cakes. 😀

There were some chocolate chip ‘brownies’ that also looked amazing (that you can just about see on the right side). I so need to try these as well!

In short, WAG Free is a gluten free heaven. Free from cross contamination worries. A must for all coeliacs/GF people living in or visiting London. 🙂
